Sh. Harnam Dass was born on September 14, 1904, in the village of Badayun, District Una, Himachal Pradesh. His father, Daulat Ram, supported his early education, which he completed up to the 5th standard in his native village. For further studies from 6th to 8th standard, he received help from his maternal uncle. From a young age, Harnam Dass was known for his humility, honesty, and strong desire to uplift his community, which was facing significant challenges at the time.
After completing his education in 1931, he moved to Shimla and worked in the Government Press. In 1935, he shifted to Delhi, where he established his own business, "English Provisional Store," at Qutab Road crossing in Sadar Bazar. Over time, the store became well-known and was later renamed "Harnam Dass & Sons."
Sh. Harnam Dass was a visionary and a community leader. He founded the Kshatriya Girth Bahti Chahang Local Committee in Delhi and successfully registered it under the Societies Act. His leadership and dedication to the community earned him great respect.
Known for his generosity and compassion, Sh. Harnam Dass was often referred to as "Seth Ji" by the people he helped. He was widely known as Seth Harnam Dass due to his selfless service and benevolence. Through his hard work and commitment, the KGBC Local Committee Delhi was able to purchase a 5,400-square-foot plot in K Block, Laxmi Nagar, Delhi, a significant achievement for the community at the time.
Due to his advancing age, in 1988, Sh. Harnam Dass was honored as the Chief Patron of KGBC Delhi, a testament to his lifelong contributions. On June 11, 2005, he passed away, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and dedication to the community. Sh. Harnam Dass will always be remembered as a pathfinder and a pillar of strength, respected and cherished by the community for generations to come.
